The VI Summer Arts Academy in Birštonas provides the cello masterclass given by Nicholas Jones – Nicholas Jones is one of the leading String Pedagogues in the UK. He is Head of Strings at Chetham’s School of Music (the UK’s largest Specialist Music School) and Professor of Cello at the Royal Northern College of Music. He gives masterclasses at music academies and conservatoires throughout Europe and sits on juries of major competitions. He is an active international solo and Chamber Music cellist.
Nicholas has the special ability to see students artistic potential and help unlock it. Whether it is about seeing areas of technique which are causing problems or finding new ways to listen to and releasing musician’s musical voice, his perceptive approach is so valuable. He combines this with warmth and humor to create exceptional lessons and masterclasses. He also tries to make a connection with students – to understand them as people and work with who they are – not something he thinks they should be or become.
