NESSUN DORMA – No One Sleeps!

Today marks the beginning of the five-night concert marathon festival, NESSUN DORMA... Egidijus Buožis and the sunny Neapolitan songs performed by young singers from Vilnius and Kaunas will keep you entertained during the longest summer nights.

From June to September 2024, every other week from Friday to Saturday night, from 10 PM to 3 AM, a three-session marathon will take place at the Music Lounge (Gediminas Ave. 32-2). Each event night will feature "Serenades" (classical music) starting at 10 PM, "Jazz Nights" starting at midnight, and a media opera "Rigoletto" starting at 2 AM.

These events, held in the cozy and community-friendly Music Lounge, continue a long-standing tradition of Lithuanian musicians: direct interaction with the audience allows for a deeper understanding of both the music and the performers. The grand piano of Saulius Sondeckis adds extra charm to the events held in this venue. Each concert by professional performers in this excellent acoustic space becomes a true luxury, with musical sounds spreading in marvelous overtone shades.

Tonight, the Music Lounge will be alive with performances by students of the VDU Music Academy professors Sabina Martinaitytė and Audronė Eitmanavičiūtė, and international competition laureates Deimantė Bačiulytė, Emilija Bagdonaitė, Liepa Dabriškaitė, Paulius Katiliavas, Ugnė Stražnickaitė, Ieva Vaivadaitė, and the ensemble "Two and a Half Tenors" (directed by Prof. Algirdas Janutas), featuring singers Ervinas Jasevičius, Ignas Ščesnulevičius, Liudvikas Suvorovas, Domas Saulevičius, and Salomėja Petronytė. The festivities will be led by pianists Prof. Audronė Eitmanavičiūtė and Gražina Zalatorienė.

You will stay awake with arias and ensembles from E. Calman's and R. Stolz's operettas, E. Arietta's, F. Barbieri's zarzuelas, J. Bock's and L. Cohen's musicals, and songs by L. Arditi, Fr. P. Tosti, P. Sorozabal, C. A. Bixio, E. Capua, E. Cannio, and songs from A. Šabaniauskas' repertoire.

JAZZ NIGHT: Egidijus BUOŽIS

At midnight, the "Jazz Nights" cycle will be kicked off by Egidijus Buožis – a jazz pianist, composer, producer, and professor of jazz studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. E. Buožis' repertoire ranges from well-known jazz standards to original contemporary jazz compositions incorporating elements of bebop, hard bop, cool, fusion, ethno-jazz, and acid-jazz.

Egidijus' jazz compositions are not just a luxury; they are a sort of hypnosis session. The continuous flow of music enchants listeners, immersing them in a colorful world of sounds. The pianist's mastery in performance, composition, and improvisation is so impressive that his music can go on as long as the audience desires. Egidijus Buožis is even listed in the Guinness Book of Records for the longest spontaneous jazz composition (72 minutes) performed on April 9, 2015, at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius.
